The monster from Australia, this is a giant version of Drosera adelae which can grow up to a foot in diameter!
Drosera adelae is endemic to Queensland Australia where it grows in shady forest floor. It produces beautiful star shaped red flowers on rare occasions but mainly reproduces producing new plants from it’s roots. Drosera adelae is unusual in the sense that in can grow in shadier conditions than other carnivorous plants so it can be easily grown as a houseplant in a windowsill or even in bright indirect light. Like all sundews the leaves are covered in sticky glands that trap and suffocate prey, mainly small flies and mosquitoes, that it uses to absorb nutrients. An amazing addition to any carnivorous plant collection. The plants for sale are growing in 3.5” pots.
Drosera Care Guide
Sunlight: Most species of Drosera prefer direct sunlight part of the day or in full sun. BUT as we explained Drosera adelae thrives in lower light.
Substrate: This species grows best in a mix of Sphagnum moss and perlite 3:1 ratio. No fertilizers should be added to the mix.
Watering: Carnivorous plants thrive in clean water (distilled, rainwater, purified reverse-osmosis water). Sundews prefer to grow on the water tray method to mimic the swampy habitats they generally grow in. The water should always be present in the tray so that the plants never dry out.
Dormancy: This sundew is tropical so therefore has no dormancy period.
Temperature: Tropical sundews thrive between 55F and 90F.
