Alocasias Care Guide

Alocasias Care Guide

Sunlight: Alocasia are understory rainforest plants which means they thrive in shady conditions. They can be grown as houseplants in bright light areas. Avoid excesive direct sunlight.

Substrate: Alocasia are terrestrial aroids, that prefer to be grown in rich and well drained soil with generous amounts of fertilizer. Perlite and orchid bark may be added to increase drainage. A good mix is two parts each of perlite and orchid bark to one part potting soil.

Watering: Alocasia enjoy frequent watering but allow the top two inches of soil to dry before watering. This genre are prone to root rot, so avoid excessively wet conditions or overpotting.

Humidity: Alocasia can tolerate a wide range of humidity levels but they grow best when relative humidity is above 50%

Fertilizer: Solid pellet fertilizer and liquid fertilizer may be used in small quantities once a month to promote consistent growth.

Re-PottingDoes better when slightly rootbound. Avoid repotting more than once every 2-3 years, and only increase pot size slightly.
